The City of Malden held a ribbon cutting ceremony Sunday, April 30, 2017 at Forestdale Park. Improvements and renovations at the park included removal of pavement, benches and chain link fencing and installation of ADA accessible concrete walkways, curbing, new chain link fencing, lawn seeding adjacent to the existing ball field and the City's first ADA dug out shelters. The new dugout shelters will accommodate space for wheelchairs and will provide participants protection from the elements alongside their team mates.
The D12 Challenger League, a separate division of Little League which enables boys and girls with physical and mental challenges to enjoy the game of baseball along with the millions of other children who participate in this sport worldwide, uses the field at Forestdale Park as do the Forestdale School students and neighborhood residents.
Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds were used for the improvements and renovations to Forestdale Park. The Malden Redevelopment Authority (MRA) administers CDBG funds on behalf of the City. The MRA administered this project for the City.
