A Boston Globe article profiled Malden as one of “7 school districts in affordable communities to watch”. The article references Malden's Linden STEAM Academy which five years ago became an innovation school serving kindergarten through eighth grade to have more autonomy over hiring, professional development and school policies. The school took on a STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and math) theme and focuses on project-based learning. Linden STEAM Academy boasts an engineering partnership with Tufts University, has three computer labs, one-to-one Chromebooks for students in sixth through ninth grade, iPad carts for younger students and an engineering lab.
