MRA Receives $1.2M Federal Grant for Lead Paint Abatement

Monday, July 10, 2017

The Malden Redevelopment Authority (MRA) has been granted a new Lead Paint Abatement Grant by the Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) Office of Lead Hazard Control and Healthy Homes. The MRA will be receiving a $1,179,085.22 Lead Hazard Control Grant and a $188,000 Healthy Homes supplement.  The supplement can be used to address other health hazards in homes that have been de-leaded through this grant. The City has prioritized the replacement of privately owned lead water lines for the supplement portion of the grant award.

HUD received over 100 applications from across the country this round and funded 48 including Malden’s. The funds should be available to the MRA by the end of September 2017. The funds will be made available to homeowners who must meet certain income eligibility standards. Additional information about the application process will be posted to the MRA website once it completes the execution of contractual documents with HUD.
