Notice of Funding Availability, Public Hearing and Revision to Citizen Participation Plan for Community Development Block Grant and HOME Program

In accordance with U.S. Dept. of Housing & Urban Development regulations, the City of Malden is required to advise residents about the progress of its current Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) programs and seek input from residents prior to drafting the Program Year 2018 Annual Action Plan, which begins July 1, 2018.
 

The City’s 2018 CDBG entitlement amount will be approximately $1.2 million. The City of Malden is also the lead member of the North Suburban HOME Consortium (NSC), comprised of eight adjoining communities, for the purpose of accessing approximately $1.5 million in HOME Investments Partnership Program annual funding for affordable housing. The Malden Redevelopment Authority administers both the CDBG and HOME Programs on behalf of the City.
 

CDBG funding applications will be available Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at 12:00 PM on the Malden Redevelopment Authority website: www.maldenredevelopment.com, or for pick up at 17 Pleasant Street, 3rd Floor. All applications for CDBG funding shall be submitted to Nick Pernice, Community Development Director, no later than Friday, February 16, 2018 at 12:00 PM. Technical assistance is available. PUBLIC HEARING #1: Tuesday January 16, 2018, at 6:00 PM, at Malden Redevelopment Authority Office, 176 Pearl Street, Malden. The hearing will include: technical assistance on submission of an application, review of performance of current year projects, status of Section 108 Loans, and input on housing and community development needs. The facility is handicap accessible. Residents with special needs or language interpretation requirements should call 781-324-5720 x 5728 before January 12.
 

PUBLIC HEARING #2: Tuesday March 13, 2018, at 6:00 PM, at Malden Redevelopment Authority Office, 176 Pearl Street, Malden. The hearing will include: opportunity for input on the draft Action Plan, review of performance of current year projects, status of Section 108 Loans, and input on housing and community development needs. The facility is handicap accessible. Residents with special needs or language interpretation requirements should call 781-324-5720 x 5728 before March 9.

 

The City of Malden’s, and the NSC’s Citizen Participation Plans have been amended and updated to include the community participation requirements included in the new Affirmatively Further Fair Housing (AFFH) Rule regarding requirements for public participation and consultation in the development of an Assessment of Fair Housing. A draft revised Citizen Participation Plan is available for public comment on the MRA website for 30 days from Tuesday, January 16 through Friday, February 16, 2018.
