A Plan for a Renewed Commercial Street

The City of Malden, through the office of Mayor Gary Christenson and Malden Redevelopment Authority (MRA), has partnered with MassDevelopment to create an economic development and land use framework plan for the Commercial Street Corridor. The team of Harriman Associates and Initiative for a Competitive Inner City (ICIC) serve as consultants for this study.

The plan builds on a 2015 Urban Land Institute report that highlighted the need for a comprehensive plan for Commercial Street. The study will include strategies to guide new development and support job retention and creation.  The study will also provide strategies to remediate existing environmental conditions, improve access to the Malden River, and enhance open space.  Possibilities for the relocation of the existing public works facility will also be identified.

MassDevelopment will provide up to $75,000 worth of services to produce this framework study and economic development strategy for the Commercial Street corridor. There is no cost to the City or MRA.
