Report Eyes Opportunity to Re-Tool Commercial Street

MassDevelopment recently teamed up with the Mayor's Office, City Officials and Malden Redevelopment Authority (MRA) on a plan to reinvigorate the Commercial Street corridor.

MassDevelopment engaged two consultants for the project Harriman Associates and Initiative for a Competitive Inner City (ICIC) which looked at current uses and conditions, current zoning and the job market in the region. The plan identified strengths, opportunities and challenges for re-tooling the area with a focus on commercial growth and retention.  Area residents and businesses were engaged throughout the process through a survey and public community forums.  The report also looked at potential redevelopment scenarios for the MRA-owned property at 356 Commercial Street currently occupied by the Malden Public Works Department.

The internal working group for this project included Councillors Peg Crowe and Paul Condon, MRA Executive Director Deborah Burke, City of Malden Business Strategy and Development Officer Kevin Duffy, and City Planner Michelle Romero.
