The CBD Garage, located at 170 Centre Street at the corners of Route 60 and Middlesex Street, and the Jackson Street Garage at 7 Jackson Street opposite the Malden Center MBTA Station are closed to short-term parkers due to decreasing demand resulting from COVID-19. The facilities will remain open to monthly card key holders who include local residents and employees who work in Downtown Malden.
Short-term parkers visiting or doing business in Downtown Malden can avail themselves of other short-term parking options including the metered parking lot at 413 Main Street next to Citizens Bank, the metered lot at 83 Pleasant Street or at metered on-street parking, if available.
Demand for short-term parking in the garages has decreased significantly and operators attribute that decrease to COVID-19. According to data tracked by the Parking Operator, SP+ Parking there were few short-term parkers in the facilities.
The Malden Redevelopment Authority (MRA) owns the CBD Garage and administers the off-street parking program in Downtown Malden. Deborah Burke, Executive Director of the MRA, noted, “This was not an easy decision to make. However we had to weigh the demand against the day-to-day operating costs. The impacts of COVID-19 are far reaching and will result in staff reductions in the off-street parking program operations.”
